The city of Bismarck offers an impressive selection of educational choices, as well as childcare services, for you to choose from.
With more than 21 private daycare and preschool facilities located conveniently throughout the city, you will find the perfect match for you and your family. There is a variety of options to choose from, including a Montessori school and numerous licensed in-home day care, and sick childcare providers.
There are twenty public and nine private elementary schools, four public and nine private junior high schools, and four public and two private high schools located in Bismarck. There is also support given to those interested in home schooling, through the Homeschooling Association of Bismarck-Mandan.
The Bismarck Public School District is the second largest in the state of North Dakota, and has been awarded “Blue Ribbons” from “Expansion Management” magazine for producing outstanding students on sensible budgets, in 2004.

- Eighth-grade students in North Dakota rate near the top of NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Programs) math and reading scores in 2003. Scores were ND Math 287, national average 276; ND reading 270, national average 261.
- Fourth-grade scores were also higher than national average: ND math 238, national average 234; ND reading 222, national average 216.
- The average for daily attendance in 2003-04 was 96.7% for Bismarck Public Schools.
- Bismarck Public Schools graduation rate was 98.5% for 2003-04.
